Allen Taber has been named the new president and chief executive officer of SunTrust Bank, West Georgia, it was announced late Wednesday afternoon.
Taber, who has been with the bank 31 years, has been a regional executive vice president for all of the markets south of Atlanta. His duties for the last seven years have included being the senior credit officer for commercial real estate.
Taber, 54, replaces Frank Etheridge III, who announced his retirement in March. Etheridge, who has been local president for 21 years, leaves his post at the end of the week.

“I would call this a reward for making banking a career and being committed to the same company and the same market for 30-plus years,” Taber said.
Taber has lived in Columbus since elementary school. He is a 1972 graduate of Columbus High School. He started college at Auburn University and finished at Columbus State University.
